SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Governor Gavin Newsom denied Louisiana’s extradition order for a physician from Sonoma County. The physician was charged with furnishing a woman from Louisiana with abortion medication. Additionally, the extradition order, posted on a state website included some of the physician’s personal information which raises safety concerns for him and his practice.
“In California, we remain committed to protecting essential reproductive care, including abortions. Louisiana’s extradition order for a Healdsburg physician who provided that care is an unacceptable attack on our medical community. I applaud Governor Newsom for blocking that extradition order and stand with him. Louisiana is a state that denies women the right to control their own bodies We will not accept their attempt to control when and how our medical professionals choose to render care as well.”
